Miami building collapsed: more than one dead expected as rescue crews say 99 unaccounted for
A large-scale rescue operation continues
at the site of a collapsed block in Miami,
where authorities said at least one person was dead, 10 injured and dozens more
unaccounted for.
On Thursday, the Miami-Dade police
chief, Alfredo Ramirez, reported that 99 people remained missing and 53 condo
residents were rescued or otherwise accounted for. The cause of the collapse
was unknown, he said, but an estimated 55 of the 130 apartments were badly affected.
The First Time
This is the first time to experience
such a bitter matter in terms of building collapse, so the reactions are still
still, but who knows the coming days may see different responses and public
anger towards someone who are responsible for this.
Accordingly, police have started a homicide inquiry, according
to Sally Heyman, a county commissioner who represents Surfside. However, it’s
the unimaginable thing and a massive search and rescue mission is under way. I
think all need to be done is to identify and rescue those who have been trapped
in the rubble.
